Inside SOLIS

Who We Are

The Student Organizations of Library and Information Science (SOLIS) at the University of South Florida (USF) currently consists of two separate student chapters, of the American Library Association (ALA) and the Special Libraries Association (SLA). Originally, the student chapters of these two groups, in addition to the student chapter of the Association for Information Science & Technology (ASIS&T), worked individually. The separate groups began to work together as one large organization because of common goals and the benefit of pooled resources for larger events and fundraisers. Currently, the student chapters of ALA and SLA maintain separate contact with their respective parent organizations for financial support.

The Executive Board is made up of at least eight elected officers: a president and vice-president for each chapter, as well as an archivist, a treasurer, secretary, and a webmaster for the group at large. For more information about the board, elections, and other policies, consult the wiki.

There are eight committees, ranging from socials to fundraising. Committees are an excellent way for all members to get involved and to gain experience with event programming, fundraising, marketing, or publishing. For more information, including the current committee chairs and members, see the Committee section of the wiki.
